Creativitea: An Experimental Doodling Workshop
The Doodle Kit Project team will easily choose a cup of chai over absolutely everything else in life. There exist a lot of questions which can be easily answered with a cup of chai. One of them was, “What can we do differently with our next doodling workshop?” The answer, if not concrete in the beginning, was very obvious, “Chai!”. As a result, we partnered with The Craftsutra to add more life to the ever-lively Chaayos, stationed at Connaught Place, New Delhi.
The Doodle Kit Project was founded by the ingenious Rohit Soni, a man so passionate about Doodling that he chose to practice it for a living after pursuing his degree from IIT Mumbai. This event was a creative experiment since it was the first time that we wanted to use Chai, the memories and experiences associated with it as the theme for the workshop.
A cup of tea is a concoction of ingredients which come together so effortlessly to create an aroma, taste and along with them a soothing experience that makes us feel refreshed and ready for the rest of the day. Honestly, a cup of chai is a micro therapy session for our mindfulness even when we actively don’t realize it. But what if we do? What if we combine chai time with doodling.
“Let go of your inhibitions, feel the pen touching the paper, gently move your fingers to find your style- it is basically your handwriting.” Says Rohit Soni and the people taking the workshop slowly allowed themselves to be permeable to the environment. He goes on to ask them to doodle their emotions and discloses a trick to channel one’s thoughts and converse with their mind.
The next segment of the workshop comprises a game of Pictionary, an attempt to teach the skill of simplifying your art to communicate what you want to say. From depicting Lord Ganesha using two curves and Gandhiji with 3 circles, the idea of elucidating your doodles was perfectly put across!
The participants were later nudged to share their story with the person next to them and to their surprise, were later asked to draw the story that they heard as doodles! This activity was enjoyed to the fullest, for they, not just learned how to link creativity and imagination with implementation but also made a friend! To conclude the workshop with a bang, uber-cool paper bags sponsored by Chaayos, were distributed and the doodlers were asked to draw their favorite Chai memory on them! There was no dearth for creativity at this event and to restore this belief, the facilitators spurred the idea of using the tea and a cup that were earlier distributed to stamp on the bags!
All the activities during the workshop were carried out with everyone having a cup of tea with them. An informal element to the workshop allowed people to engage with each other and break the ice in a mere couple of hours. A simple everyday beverage we take can create an environment where one’s creative awareness with themselves was nudged if not awakened though the platform of doodling while chai being an instrument of creativity and mindfulness.
In fact, we have explored ourselves the importance of a beverage and connection with self and have come up with a kit that allows one to have their minds occupied with this experimental creative outcome. We call it Creativi-Tea Chai Kit. This is an attempt from the Rohit, who loves chai religiously to make ours and your tea time a wholesome experience.
